I have found using 2 HTs, the best receiver goes on RX, and a filter, BLP-200+, MFJ-916B, etc..., to prevent desensitization works very well.

There is a good case to be made for the IC-2730A, as it is full duplex and can do more than 5w if needed. Cost wise, it is similar to 2 decent HTs, so that is another option too.
