Hi All,
There have been discussions on this BB in the past about the best USB to serial interface units. I seem to recall that there was one reccommended unit (not very cheap) which had the advantage of not reallocating COM port numbers each time the PC was restarted. I think it had 4 serial ports. Can anyone advise which this unit was
Or alternatively recommend a good unit?
Thanks and 73s

Hi Jim,
Don't know about what was recommended.
I have been using the FTDI chips and complete solutions in various configurations with good succes. See: http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/USB-Serial.htm
UC232R-10; DLP-2232ML; TTL-232R all worked OK for me. The first of these is a complete solution, the second is an USB to Serial conversion chip that requires a level converter of the max232 type to bring the signals up to RS232 standard, the third is a new product that is an USB-serial converter (TTL level) in the form factor of a cable.
Hope this helps, BR, -- //\arc
