I use MacDoppler very successfully all the time. What it does on birds like AO-16 is what called full doppler correction. In other words it adjusts the uplink frequency so that it is received at the satellite at a constant frequency. It also adjusts the downlink frequency on the radio to hear the same frequency adjusted for doppler.
