Several years ago, when I went to visit my parents for Christmas, I took along my Arrow yagi. I removed the 2 m elements and put it all inside a suitcase. Someone recognized the shape of an antenna as it passed through the x-ray and asked if I was a ham.
I have a pocket certificate of my certificate in my wallet in case anyone wants proof.

I took 2 HTs and my Arrow broke down into a arrow carrying case and had no issues. Was not asked about them at all.
I had a copy of my license in the same case as the HT incase I needed it; save me from digging a copy out of someplace else.

I've never even been asked about my TH-D72 going through security. You should be fine.
Safe travels.

Dave,
Usually, they just want you to turn it on to show it's a real working radio instead of something else. Don't expect to be turning in on during the flight.

I'll be flying Southwest airlines tomorrow and plan to take my TH-D72 HT along for the ride. This is my first time taking an HT in my carry-on backpack through security. Does this usually go smoothly or are there any pit falls I need to be prepared for?
