The pots are the same as the G5400b AZ and EL - 500 ohm 360 degree.
They are also metric but if a suitable wire wound precision pot is found there is sufficient material in the gear hub to be drilled out. The Allen screw is also metric. 1.5mm Allen key required
See URL below for some close ups of the G5400B - similar to the 5500 except for location of the phasing capacitor and limit switches in the AZ.

If a sealed precision wire wound pot can be found that does not have that limiting looping wire to the center, I would be interested in a group buy to have one or 2 spares on hand for the next rebuilt and greasing.
Domenico gave me part numbers last year but when I got a quote they were hugely expensive but they fit my requirement of total enclosed, wire wound and precision.
From a Sept 2008 email from Domenico:
Here are many wire wound linear potentiometers that can be adapted.

The models belove seems to be the best candidates because they are totally encapsulated wirewound and 360° continuous rotation.

Hello All,
We really need a FAQ section on the AMSAT web page for the Yaesu az/el units :)
Anyhow, here's my question: Are the G-5500 azimuth and elevation resistor pots the same or different?
Does anybody have the replacement part(s) number (s) handy--either from Vertex/Yaesu or another supplier?
My azimuth pot is going bad.
Thanks,
