There is no currently manufactured HT that does both V/U and U/V modes well for us. The Kenwood TH-D723a did - but 

was recently discontinued by Kenwood.

SO … Use two Has! Use your “better” one for receive, and another for transmit!

And although it is preferable to work true, full-duplex (where you can hear the downlink (earpiece. headset) while you key the 

mic and transmit, out is NOT absolutely necessary. Better because you can make sure you’re hitting the satellites;;site and also knowing you are not accidentally stepping on someone … but not absolutely mandatory.

If you find that the two-HT method causes de-sense on one unit, separate the antennas a bit. Get a second person involved!
