I forgot to mention, that there are already projects using the sound interface as a measurement device with the ability to even sample DC voltages with a fairly linear range. This would make indeed a nice modem for various purposes, packet radio, aprs, psk, etc... in addition to the build-in WLAN intrerface...

As Tom said, there would be a fantastic opportunity if Ham Radio in general jumps on it and provides tools to the Educational community and for the Kids...
Apart from this, since the OPLC has a very low power consumption, it would also be a good replacement for some of the PC's in your radio shack.. Antenna controller, Satellite tracking, etc...
