Dave, I have travelled with a D72. I just go into the menu and disable transmit (just in case, and so I could tell anyone that it was that way), keep a copy of my license, and as someone else said, be prepared to turn it on if necessary. It has never been necessary. Once I had a BUNCH of electronics in my bag for display at Hamvention I think, and TSA pulled the bag aside going through the X-ray and asked me about it. No problem, though.
