The loops are secured with Allen screws at their bottom. They take a 3/32 Allen wrench to tighten them (I just checked this on my Eggbeater). You might want to make sure there's no ice in the hex hole, or the wrench won't get a good bite. Let me know if you need a copy of the manual and I'll email it.

Before I even *think* about climbing up there to fix it or put something else in its place in the middle of a Chicago winter, can anyone provide any details on how the rod attaches to the housing? (photographs would be even better) It's been up there a while, and my memory of the construction has faded....
