You could work it even with a standard rubber duck and 1.5 W. You can see it in this video http://eb4dka.batcave.net/so50.html working with a VX-2R "out of the box".

Tim, check with N5AFV. Allen has had good success using the larger AL800 antenna on his handheld. I've worked him from quite a few Texas grids. He may have tips on using this setup on a website and is always anxious to help.
