It's perhaps a bit old, but I find it still works well.  It's my does--almost-everything rig.

The radio pre-dates the 60m band, however; receive is fine but it won't transmit there.  It's also a bit "interesting" to interface to modern sound-card based computer multi-mode interfaces.  Its digital model assumed separate stand-alone TNCs for packet and RTTY.  Combining both into one can be done, but it requires some clever cabling.

One thing to be aware of for satellite work is that there was a change during production where the CAT interface was improved.  The earlier version was limited to one direction communication, so you can't grab the knob and have the computer know what you're doing.  If you want to be computer controlled (which most do), do some searching for the serial number at which the cut-over occurred and shop with that knowledge.

I'm considering acquiring a Yaesu FT-847. Realizing it's a 30 year old radio & there are some documented issues with it, I'd like to hear from anyone on the list who's owned and used one..the good, the bad & the ugly.

Thanks,
