The software guys, being mostly of the Unix persuasion lobbied for something very terse like AMASAT-fo or AMSAT-fx.
There were a few Windows guys who wanted C:\ArerospaceVehicle.Satellite.AMSAT.Foxtrot(FollowOnToECHO-AO51)
AMSAT-Fox came out as a compromise.
