Hi Paul!
I can't speak to the Funcube Dongle Pro+ specifically, but since most of the common SDR apps work with a variety of different SDRs, I'll comment anyway.
The "only" receiver that I ever use for linear sats is an SDR (SDRPlay RSP1, in my case). The software that I use is HDSDR.
Besides the normal frequency control with mouse clicks, etc., I have a spare USB mouse that I have stripped down so that there is no bottom LED nor left/right clickers. All that remains is the center scroll wheel. I have this "thing" sitting sideways in front of my laptop's keyboard and HDSDR is configured to use that scroll wheel to adjust the tuned frequency. How granular you want that movement to be is configurable... I have mine set for 50hz per tic from the scroll wheel, but of course that's something to adjust by trial & error for personal preference.
So, to answer your question - that makes it extremely easy to adjust for doppler as signals on the downlink move around on you. I've positioned the (sideways) wheel so that left tunes to the left and right tunes to the right. You hardly have to think about it... just follow the downlink as needed.

Satellite Folks,
It there a software package that can fully control a Funcube Dongle Pro+ and emulate a traditional receiver? A la frequency control fine enough for SSB doppler adjustments?
I have used the FDP+ as a pan-adapter on satellite but not the primary receiver. The FDP+ is a better receiver than the Baofeng - if it can be controlled with good granularity.
