if you look around now you can find regular (by that i mean no cellular contract etc ... required) netbooks for 200$$ got one last weekend at Staples
For my in-shack computer, I use similar technology in a shoe-box sized desktop, the motherboard linked here: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945GCLF2-D945GCLF2D/D945... often nicknamed as the 'Little Falls 2'. By using it to drive a large monitor, you get the best of both worlds: low CPU power and the screen real estate that satellite operations sometimes requires.
My dream mobo would be one of these Intel Atom ones with more space for ram and with the virtualization features turned on so that I can run linux images alongside the Win32 ham stuff.

Tony,
I have been using an Aspire 1 netbook, it has a 1.6G CPU with 1G RAM and has 3 USB ports. SatPC32 runs very well controlling an Icom 910. The cost was $299.

Hi All, Has anyone used SatPC32 with a netbook computer? I'd appreciate your comments. Which netbooks do best? What ports do netbooks come with?
I just tried SatPC32 on AO-7 with an old Dell Inspiron 3800. It works well controlling 2 FT-817s in the shack. When outside, using a charged battery, it was very slow. I had to restart SatPC32 a couple of times, and, as a result, lost at least 2 QSOs with Europe. Maybe it's time for a change.
