Anyone bring the J4 buttons signals out to pushbuttons on the front panel of their trackers? They are sorta redundant if the tracker is located close to the rotor control box.

You can use them for calibration (you can also do this from a terminal emulator). True, other than this, largely superfluous. On the LVB Tracker 2, they are however used extensively.
