What Clint said.  When I go HT-portable, I use an FT3D and an older Yaesu HT (VX8, shares the same batteries).  Antenna is a modified (carbon fiber boom) Arrow.  I use a tripod, you don't have to.  Good luck!

Use your better HT's RX sensitivity, and use a second HT for TX.
