How can one live outside the coverage zone of a satellite ?

My question... I searched the Amsat website, and I don't see any mention of the bird. Did it die (or was disabled) and is now back on the active list?
All that said, the satellite appears to be in an equatorial orbit, and I'm too far North... {sigh}
