Hi all,

I see no mention of the LabJack U12 plus Piggyback.  And I see no mention of the LabJack U3 plus Piggyback.  The Piggyback is a USB/rotor interface.  The whole system is thus the computer talks to the U12 via the USB port.  The U12 also talks to the rotor control box (in my case a Yaesu G-5400B) via the 8 pin DIN socket.

Details for the LabJack U12 can be found at:  U12 | LabJack
and for the LabJack U3 at: U3 | LabJack

I have 2 of the U12s.  My first one I got over 20 years ago and at the time the U12 Piggyback was available through Northern Lights Software Associates (Nova for Windows).  Unfortunately Northern Lights Software no longer supports Nova (now for free) and thus no Piggyback through them.  For all I know, NLSA might actually be out of business.

But if you want to build the Piggyback (which I did for my spare U12 that I loan out to any of the ARISS schools that I mentor who might need one), then go to the SatPC32 webpage and download the schematic for the U12 or U3.  For the U12: lj_piggyback.JPG (1012×580) (dk1tb.de) and for the U3: lj_piggyback_u3.JPG (1028×584) (dk1tb.de).  For my U12 Piggyback that I built, it probably cost me less than $20.

All I can say is that the U12 + Piggyback works just great for Nova or SatPC32 and I have had no issues.

Just another interface to consider.

Does anyone know if the Chinese knockoffs (COM-232B or USB-232B) are suitable replacements for the GS-232B AZ-EL rotator controllers?  If not, is there anything more economical than the GS-232B, yet equally functional?

Thanks,
