I have mine for 10+ years now, bought it used. It’s a solid radio. UHF/VHF and HF in a (for the time) small package and everything works well. I use mine mostly for satellite work and its designed to do this well. CAT control can be a bit touchy and most software which talks to it is pretty outdated by now.

My biggest issue with it was the relatively ugly looking blueish-white LCD display. Its harsh on the eyes IMHO.  I acquired a color filter foil which gives it now an amber color, much nicer looking.

Subject: [AMSAT-BB] FT-847?

I'm considering acquiring a Yaesu FT-847. Realizing it's a 30 year old radio & there are some documented issues with it, I'd like to hear from anyone on the list who's owned and used one..the good, the bad & the ugly.

Thanks,
