I just read that Philip already set his callsign. Not sure then. I am not sure what beacon icon you're talking about. When I press it I see "STA" and the radio transmits. That has always worked for me in the past.
I actually recently reset mine and hadn't used it for APRS yet. I just turned on the TNC and tried to beacon and it didn't work. I changed the callsign in the APRS Basic Set menu from "NOCALL" to my callsign and it worked.
There is a setting to select which side of the radio is the "data" side but you can press beacon while the radio is on either side and it will beacon on whatever side is selected as the data side.

I vaguely remember an issue about the bands. Does it only work with VFO A and B on the same band? Or maybe you have to be in single VFO mode? I don't remember but I do remember seeing something similar.
Is the TNC on? Is the squelch closed? By default Data Carrier Detect (DCD) is enabled and that won't let you send packets if the squelch is open.

I should add that the internal GPS is turned on, and I've left the rig outside with a clear path to the sky for several minutes to get a GPS lock. Hasn't made any difference to BCON showing up on the display
Had some glitches with my 72A, so I did a hard reset on the unit.
Now, when pressing the BCON button on the keypad, BCON does not appear on the display screen.
I've gone through the set-up for adding callsign, date/time, etc, but still no luck in enabling the BCON icon. (Unit receives APRS just fine.)
Am I overlooking something simple?
Thank you
