Paul, This will be my last comment on the subject:
First of all, the absurd notion that a comment on a ham radio bulletin board is going to result in an international political storm resulting in the grounding of the ISS is beyond any logic. It is really not worth the time to debate. Secondly, for you and Stefan to attempt to 'censure' my joke/comment in the name of international relations is arrogant, uninformed and specious. If AMSAT US wants to pull my comments, that is up to them, not YOU. You and Stefan are not spokesmen for AMSAT or anyone else. Ham radio is a hobby, not a lifestyle. 'Satellite' and related ham radio is a miniscule part of the hobby. You take yourself way too serious.
Your ridiculous premise that we need to tip toe on this board lest we tee off some Russian is ludicrous !! The Russian government is one of the most repressive on the planet. They routinely enslave and murder their own citizens. Now, they are in the process of doing the same to the people of Ukraine. The ISS is way, way down on their list.
Do not attempt to impose your misguided values on me.

Ted,
I would remind you and everyone else that Stefan is making a very valid point here. Obviously we are free to make jokes and express political beliefs, but there are two critical points to make here:
- It's not out of the realm of possibility that continuing a discussion along these lines could seriously harm the international partnership that makes ARISS possible.
- Our freedoms in this country mean that the government cannot censor our speech. Those freedoms do not extend to privately owned message boards such as this one. AMSAT is free to control the posting privileges on this board and to edit or delete messages from the board archives as they see fit.

Sorry if you are wound so tight that you can’t do that.

Hi Ted,
The reason we have SSTV from the Russian module is because we DO NOT mix politics with ham radio. The reason we still have the ISS and all the different crews because we DO NOT mix politics with human space flight!
Hope that helps,
Stefan, VE4NSA

There is a report on Twitter that ARISS SSTV is being planned for PD180 mode images starting Feb 21 at 10:00 UT and ending on Feb 23 at 21:30 UT. Not yet seen any other confirmation but good news if true.
