With many thanks to the help received from Alan, WA4SCA and Drew, KO4MA, I have been Mode S on AO-51 since Monday and have been having a blast using a BBQ dish "down converted" into my 910. SatPC32 is taking care of the doppler. Uplink is via my 706MKIIG which is just parked on 145.880 with no adjustments made during the pass. Really strong signals received and no more difficult than pushing the button and talking! I hope V/S gets scheduled every month. I am thinking of buying one of Bob's helix fed dishes to even out the deep fades but its quite easy to time my talking around the fading issue!
