Hi Keith, N4ZQ
I agree with you, however how can we prevent somebody to use the Satellite into Eclipse? Fortunately, the Satellite comes into Eclipse over populated areas -like Europe- before and after the midnight, so the traffic is minimal. That's good !
On the other hand, there are several areas where the Satellite has a terrible "jamming" on the Uplink, in the middle of the night. I have observed that, over M.East and W.Asia sometimes the Satellite is fully noisy, FMing too. Probably because the Satellite subzone between 145.8-146 MHZ is fully occupied by pirates, old VHF wireless phones etc. So, even without Ham-users, sometimes the satellite is fully overloaded. That is very bad in case where the Satellite is into Eclipse but, definitely we can not much to do in order to prevent that.
As I remember, this Satellite has a function for electric management (UVC), in order to "Turn-ON" automatically the transponder, when came on Sunlight . Unfortunately, on UVC appeared a malfunction @ April'07.
Normally, if the batteries are discharged and the satellite comes into Eclipse, the transmitter is turned OFF by the UVC. It is designed so that later an analog system transmitter becomes ON automatically when the terminal voltages of the battery exceed a set value after the power is available from the Solar Panels. However, it appears likely that a malfunction occurs for this function, and the terminal voltage cannot turn-ON the transmitter even if it exceeds the set value - unless commanded from the JARL's ground station.
Therefore, without UVC-function and by carrying 12 years old Batteries, the Satellite is "naked". Even without traffic from Ham-operators during the Eclipse, it is not sure if that prolongs the FO-29's life.

Very Interesting Data you collected, Mak. Maybe it should be suggested that if FO-29 is in eclipse, that it shouldn't be used. That might prolong it's life. What do you think ?

last night I collected the Telemetry from FO-29.
Date 27 July 2008, Orbit #58990. AOS 21:27, TCA 21:34, LOS 21:41.
It is very interesting to point out that, the most part of TLM collected into Eclipe ! If I am not wrong, just the "Data1" is on Sunlight and the rest DATA on Eclipse. At 21:32 the FO-29 came on the dark, 2 minutes before the TCA.
The confirming of Sunlight on "Data1" is obvious also by Solar-Panel Current (= 1000.0 mA). Also the battery has the biggest Voltage (16.4 ). In the next "Data 2,3,4, 5 & 6" where the FO-20 was on Eclipse, the Solar-Panel Current is just 9.8 mA.
However, the battery voltage is droped down from 16.4 V (Data1 on Sunlight) to 14.2 V (Data 6 on Eclipse). That means 2.2 Volts lower in about 5 mins. I can't say if that is normal or not. It's just my notice and probably is OK that but, it should be very interesting if we can find an older TLM-Data into Eclipse in order to compare it with this one.
Finally, the following data are 100% OK. As you know dr Domenico, I am "old fashion" CW operator by using pencil and paper, however I recorded my reception and I confirmed it twice, in order to eliminate any possible fault.
Here is the collected Telemetry DATA:
