Hi! there Tim, Craig and Sawson, I like to comment that I also worked Sawson at his "50 milliwatts on a whip" but thats not it, he was able to complete a qso with Hawaii using such extremely low power, as I mention in a past post, when I finally got an extra handheld to add to my satellite station and unmarried from the arrow II antenna diplexer it was on my mind to become a satellite hog and power up my transmitter to 50 watts, but on the test day Sawson just show up using his famous call "KG6 November uniform bravo 50mw on a whip" that makes me go back to QRP mode again and try the challenge!

Tim, Sawson and I frequently have such contacts on AO51, SO50 and AO27, and we would invite anyone with a duplex handheld like our D7s, and elks, arrows and even AR800s to give it a try. The high passes are the easiest, but folks would be surprised how well 50 mw radiates through space at most any elevation!

My apologies to everyone for this re-post. Actually, it was my original attempt at posting this. I sent it right after the pass yesterday. When it didn't show up by this morning, I re-sent the post everyone saw several hours ago. I didn't think this one was going to make it.
Sorry for the repeat.

Hey everyone,
During the 2045-2046 UTC portion of the AO-27 pass over the western U.S. today (11 November), Sawson (KG6NUB) and I completed a two-way contact with handheld stations that were each transmitting 50mW (.05-watt) out. Sawson used a Kenwood TH-D7 with an Arrow, and I used a Yaesu VX-7R with an Elk. Including the published, nominal transmitted power of AO-27 (500mW), our "power budget" for the contact was 600mW, or .6-watt.
I'm thrilled to post this item to the BB. We didn't use a specially scheduled QRP pair of frequencies to complete the contact. We were in the middle of all the other stations working the pass, and were able to complete a 2-way contact using milliwatt power.
I especially hope our friends with AMSAT-South Africa will note and pass along this information in advance of their Activity Weekend, which is coming up in a couple of days. Their goal is to stimulate interest in and activity on all of the amateur satellites among South African amateurs. Our FM satellites are definitely reachable with handheld stations - even those running 1/10 the power of the satellite itself!
73 to all,
