Sorry, but what is "Autonomous mode" and what does that mean for users of the satellite?

FUNcube is now in Autonomous mode for a while. 

We are watching the effect on its 11 year old batteries and if they suffer badly we shall revert to Eclipse mode. 

All telemetry will be gratefully received.
