Hi!
Hi folks, just updated my h/held to a HT-D72a as my FT530 as it’s getting on in age. I liked the BNC connector on the FT530 it was easy to connect to my mobile antenna, but the HT-D72a uses a flimsy SMA connector. does anyone used this radio as a mobile? what kind of connection to your mobile whip?
I put one of these Diamond SMA/BNC adapters on my TH-D72A the day I bought it:

I have never put the stock Kenwood antenna on this radio. This adapter almost looks like it came on this radio from the factory. I have the same adapter on my TH-F6A, and it also looks like it came on there from Kenwood.
I don't like SMA connectors on my ham HTs, and try to avoid them when possible. All my coax and antennas for satellite work use BNC connectors, which helps for quick setup and disassembly. Same with my mobile mag-mount that has coax ending in a BNC connector.
73!
