Yes,
certainly very valid point. Cough cough.....
Anyway even if you are only interested in telemetry, tell the community why. How does it help you? Make "us" part of you goals, ideas and promote the hobby. Make our schools and students be part of it... and I could go on and on and on.... and yes a "transponder" certainly helps a little :-)

Very simple reason.
None of these cubesat developers has made any significant attempt to rally the amateur radio satellite community. In contrast, Funcube has a great community PR "machine" and we are all very excited for them.
At the end you get what you ask for.

Watch for a dozen new cubesats Tuesday from Wallops at about 7:30 PM.
I have seen a lot of email about Funcube, but haven’t seen much about
the
Wallops launch.
All of them downlink on 435 MHz band except for Naval Academy
downlinkning
on 145.870.
Seven downlinks are at 9600 baud, one at 1200 baud and the others are
CW or
other.

Sorry if this is a dupe, I hve not been following the AMSAT-BB that closely.
Plus, you can see this launch from the east coast in the dark!
