Id like to throw my hat in the ring as well. I think its great that the opportunity exists for participants to help evolve the sat tools further, but from a project standpoint I dont think we are looking at having many ports of the applications and should do some wish list and surveying of the sat community to ensure that what is developed meets the needs of the many and not just what a handful of people think is useful.

Just my 2 cents. I look forward to participating.

AMSAT has discussed internally, and we are going to post the code for https://www.amsat.org/status to our GitLab instance. We'll also upload the API code. We'll reach out directly to a couple of people on this thread, to gauge interest in helping us to develop the code further. We will use this as an opportunity to test our GitLab instance as well.

Anyone interested is also welcome to e-mail the IT team at IT@amsat.org.

Thanks.

Let me assure you the barrier to entry for prospective status page developers is extremely low.   Just send a note to webmaster@amsat.org and we can get you access to the existing code and a test database.   We do ask that any new development be done with MariaDB and PHP for consistency with the rest of the site, but if you are willing to do the work we could be persuaded to use other environments.

While the ability to add comments would be nice, there is a big problem in that the existing page does not have any kind of authentication.   This is great as the barrier to participation is low, i.e. any ham around the world can just make an entry without the hassle of setting up an account, but it invites mischief ... as it is we have had problems with people encoding political messages and naughty words into callsigns.     Unauthenticated free form comments will surely devolve into a cesspool of name calling and an be irresistible target for spam bots and script kiddies.    Introducing authentication will likely reduce participation though, so it will have to be thought through carefully.
