No hills between me or the other op. Las Vegas is in a valley surrounded by mountains to the west and south. It wasn't exactly line of sight but no obstructions. Maybe nearby house, etc.

If your area is hilly you could be receiving reflections from the hills. I'm surrounded by hills. The local repeaters are south of me, behind a hill. The repeater signals are strongest when I point my antennas to the northeast, at a big hill.
