These Yaesu Az/El rotators will work for a very, very long time if the antenna load is balanced, both side-to-side, and front-to-back. Balancing the load takes the stain off its tiny motors and gears. Case in point. I purchased a Yaesu G-5400 back in the late 80's. Over the years I have painted its metal brackets once and swapped out its OEM outer hardware with stainless, but 30 years later it's still working perfectly. Butch, KF4HR

In October 2023, Ryan Hager, N8SAN post a similar situation with his Yaesu G-5500 rotator system on QRZ Tech Forum (General Questions). https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/yaesu-rotor-motor-substitute.884561... Ryan successfully completed the rebuild work AND Added a Thermostat to prevent overheating (future occurrence).
