The Neutron-1 CubeSat team is looking for Amateurs around the world to help troubleshoot its satellite. Our team believes that the satellite goes into safe mode intermittently, making communications difficult. The satellite has had an operational beacon since deployment but its operation is irregular (the beacon downlink should be 60 sec apart). Beacons have been captured by various amateurs around the world and via SatNOGS ground stations. Commands have been transmitted to change the beacon rate and the satellite has responded correctly. The current success rate is approximately 1%. With broader community involvement, we should be able to increase the probability of successful communication with the satellite.
We are asking for the community’s involvement to attempt to send a larger set of commands (listed in this google folder https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1z27GxweZByJQ4tImD56R5XUZ6w4NWGs3 such as ‘stop agent file’ and ‘uptime’) that would allow the Neutron-1 team to troubleshoot the satellite and attempt to make it fully operational. The goal is to get Neutron-1 to be more responsive to commands sent from the ground and to activate the science payload and download its data.
Please find the instructions to send commands to the satellite on this page https://docs.google.com/document/d/1n8z7xR0fKy59aF2hGov60y--9nVgVbnEGzxF5h3GyjQ/edit#. If you are transmitting commands, have received a beacon, or if you have any questions, please reach out to the team via email ( n1-info@hsfl.hawaii.edu) or twitter @HSFLNeutron1.
