Very true, an old smart phone is a gold mine for satellite ops, to name a few it provides -
Clock,Calendar - to alert before the pass, AmsatDroid app - satellite tracker, Voice Recorder and Player app, Compass app - to get your bearings right, Built-in Camera to capture photos or videos, Built-in WiFi to transfer audio and pictures to computer or internet, A Flash-light app - if you dropped something, Very light and small... straps on your arm for hands-free operation. etc... Connecting HT's audio out with a Y-cable to headphone and smartphone, provides super clean audio ! In some cases, the WiFi can also be used to live-stream audio/video for demonstration purposes. Just my 2 cents. 73! Umesh k6vug On Thursday, April 9, 2020, 12:45:39 PM PDT, Brad Smith via AMSAT-BB amsat-bb@amsat.org wrote:
