Good and timely question Scott. Every 10 years or so I rebuild these AZ and EL rotators and replace the bears and low temperature grease I think that the pot is always the weak link and never gets attention. I have 3 sets of these AZ/EL rotators to maintain ( mine, club's and friend's ) so about every 3 years I have at least one set of them on the bench.
I look forward to other's responses to replacing these pots that are unenclosed, exposed to condensation, bugs etc, with a looped centre wire flexing/coiling/uncoiling with each satellite pass.

Our club has a 5400 Elevation Rotor with a bad potentiometer (wires on the winding broken).
The part number is Vertex Q9000408, but I contacted them and they say this part is no longer available.
Anyone have a source for an equivalent part or another alternative?
