I live in Canada and I've had to fly a lot because I'm settling my father's estate in another province. Only once was I ever questioned about my VX-7R. Someone thought the antenna looked suspicious.
After that, I made sure that the radio lies near the top when I put my gear into a tray. That way, someone can readily see it.
