Jim,
Just for reference, I am using the 64 bit version of VSPE with Win 7 and haven't had any crashing problems.
I have also used it with FLDIGI and N3FJP...and SATPC32 simultaneously!

It tends to crash Win7 at 30~45 minute intervals, and I'm still looking in to it.
The 32-bit version runs fine.

Yes !
I also use this technique with VSPE Also.
Then you can have a multiple apps connected to your radios and rotors. Satpc32 can drive the system, then your logger can read the status and log frequency az el etc... In real time.
I use DXLab for logging, SatPC32 for tracking.

Thanks for the tip, Daryl. I may try that if I can't get SatPC32 talking through the 2nd Commander CAT port.

Bill,
I use VSPE, Virtual Serial Port Emulator, from Eterlogic.

It's free for a 32 bit platform. You'll use the Com port splitter function. Say Sat PC32 is using Com port #4 for rig control, you will map Com4 to a virtual serial port, Com14 for example, then point SatPC32 and your logging program to Com14. Simultaneous bi-directional traffic can occur so it's up to you to make sure that doesn't happen (allow the logging program to read the radio frequency but don't let it write to the Com port.)
I use it for exactly your stated purpose and it works great. There are other virtual serial port solutions as well, though I tried a few and this one worked best for me.

I have been writing down satellite QSOs on scratch paper and then
manually
entering them into DXLab. I'd like to be a little bit more modern and efficient than that!
How are other people using their logging software with sat QSOs?
My FT-847 serial port is tied up with my sat tracking software SatPC32's Doppler correction feature so I'm not sure how to get the frequency data
to
the logging software.
Work around?
