For kicks, cut it open. I did this once with a right angle "N" adapter that I bought at a swapmeet, and in which I observed poor performance. Inside I found the center conductor was a small spring! The idea, I believe, was that the spring would naturally form a gentle circular arc from the center pin of one connector to the center pin of the other, maintaining nice spacing from the sidewals. This would be fine at DC, or maybe HF, but at UHF this was worthless. The spring was electrically a coil, in other words an inductor, which was altogether the wrong thing. Laughable.
