The cheapest way to work SO50 with the TS2000 is to get a $25 Baofeng, and a coax switch, and use the Baofeng for receive on SO50 passes. That is what I have been doing.

I don't have a TS-2k, but it does have a separate RX input. At least one person mentioned using it with a separate RX converter on SO-50 which gets around the internal birdie. Probably not a cost effective solution unless you happen to have one laying around.
As for a new Kenwood, I have been asking them that for years, literally. The answer in the past has always been that it is under active consideration. Real Soon Now.
