Mike:

Thank you for your email.

Quite pleased you joined the satellite group; lots of fun.

There are several satellite operators like myself who are using both HRD for the satellite tracking, next pases, etc. (HRD has very nice graphics) and SatPC 32 as the engine to run the doppler control on the radio (especially the IC-9700) via CAT control along with the rotor control via USB.

Recommend acquiring SatPC32 and perform a side by side software comparison on a WIN10 PC. SatPC32 does have a learning curve, but at the end of the day it works quite well for doppler control on FM, and linear birds along with the rotor control (flip mode, 720 degree mode, models and controllers, etc.). Erich is very responsive and supportive of the software.

My experience with HRD and issues with the program relate to the doppler and rotor control.
My station is an IC-9700, M2 LEO arrays, Green Heron Controller with a Yaesu G5500 (also have a 12PRSAT from Portable Rotators for rover/Field Day work).

If I can be of any assistance, please let me know as I would be happy to participate in your endeavors.
However, I am not a SW programmer.

Doug

Right! I'm pretty sure that's why this is a 'hobby'. (Golf is a better hobby than a profession... at my level anyway!)

Sounds good. good luck

Everyone loves to use and try different things.

That's the  great thing about  amateur radio.

It seems about a wash to me. Nonetheless...

I'm interested in working with some folks on the HRD stuff.

With HRD do you need an interface between the computer and rotator.  if you do that is the added expanse.

You also don't need any expensive rs 232 interfaces with the S.A.T. The sat replaces that. It also controls any rotator supported by PST rotator.

Sorry, I should have read the page before replying. But I'll probably get one of these so I can do a side-by-side comparison.

That said... for $189... it's still more expensive than the sum total of HRD + something like the FoxDelta ST2 USB (which is fantastic, in my opinion).

Thanks. I'll do that.

Does it control the radio and rotor(which is why my main focus is right now)? Or is it just showing tracks (which HRD does quite well)?

Take a look at the S.A.T. tracker.  The Satellite operators  love it.   No software to install for things to go wrong. Upgrades are always being made.

Greetings all.

I'm new to this email list. I searched the archive for "HRD" (Ham Radio Deluxe) related posts and I've seen a few.

I don't want to turn this into a commercial for HRD. That's not my intention. I'm happy to take a topic offline (outside the email group).

Here's my question...

For those who use Ham Radio Deluxe, what problems are you having (recently) with satellite operations using the software?

[FWIW - a lot of what I've gotten recently when I've asked seems to be 2nd-hand stories or memories of problems that occurred in the distant past. A few things have been changed recently that I hope clears some past problems.]

I'm looking for some first-hand recent feedback about using Ham Radio Deluxe for satellites so I can scope out the improvements that need to be made.

Additionally, I'm looking for someone who can help verify the Doppler calculations that control the frequency changes in the radio. In-particular, if you have experience in C++, I'm happy to let you view the code.

What I really want to do is to make Ham Radio Deluxe the best possible satellite app.

I've acquired my own satellite gear and I expect to be "eating my own dog food." So I want this to be great.

Email me direct or comment here.

Thanks.
