Lots of good info in your post, Jerry! Relative to transmitting continuously in order to keep the transponder turned on, I have this suggestion: rather then everyone transmitting continuously, we could take turns in order to give our transmitters a break. For instance, if you see a long signal in the waterfall you should assume that station is about to stop transmitting and you should begin transmitting before he stops to keep the transponder turned on. This even works with just two users on the bird. I have practiced this and I am sure my transmitter thanks me for that since I must use 90W to be solidly into the satellite. I am using just a Windom (wire) antenna, so no EIRP gain. 73, Red KC4LE
