Hello Chris,
Perhaps the info below will help answer some of your questions ...
US amsat site sat status isnt more up-to-date, as I am unsure of what is correct and what isnt.
Heh, yes quite true ... some of the details on the web site could use updating. AMSAT also makes the latest satellite status and worldwide satellite news available via the AMSAT News Service. The weekly ANS news bulletins and the Weekly Satellite Report are available free via e-mail.
Please check out http://www.amsat.org/mailman/listinfo when you have time. Select the link to ANS to sign up for the AMSAT News Service messages.
I've included this week's satellite report (for the operational satellites) below to hopefully help you find some information.
Hope this helps! Welcome to the interesting world of satellite ops :-) -- 73 de JoAnne K9JKM k9jkm@amsat.org Editor, AMSAT News Service
This report is organized into FIVE parts. Part 1 (S1) - operational analog amateur satellites Part 2 (S2) - operational digital amateur satellites

To switch the transmitter on, you need to send a CTCSS tone of 74.4 Hz. The order of operation is thus: (allow for Doppler as necessary): 1) Transmit on 145.850 MHz with a tone of 74.4 Hz to arm the 10 minute timer on board the spacecraft. 2) Now transmit on 145.850 MHz (FM Voice) using 67.0 Hz to PT the repeater on and off within the 10 Minute window. 3) Sending the 74.4 tone again within the 10 minute window will reset the 10 minute timer.
