Hi David and all--

I share the sentiment about how unfortunate and sad that the IC-9700 will not TX 9600 bps.   This is really a shortcoming.  Just the other day I got an email from a couple of Falconsat-3 satellite ops from Spain, who are drafting a letter that looks like it's intended to go to Icom, essentially about this very issue, and a few others they have observed.  I expect that I am going to join as a signatory in the end.  If we do do get a grassroots effort to try and demonstrate how many users need this feature, we might get them to fix in firmware, if that's possible (surely it is!).   If this develops into a "sign the petition" thing, I'll let people know.   They may not appreciate the number of people that want 9600.  Doesn't the EM community use a software that works at 9600?  Vari?  Anyhow...to the point!

Current production rigs for full duplex 9600?  People are reporting success with some of the dual band mobile FM radios.  The Kenwood D-710 family is one such (in the Journal, right?).   Not much to pick from, really.

So used radios:

IC-910
IC-9100
TS-2000(x)
FT-736R
TS-790A
FT-847

Those are what I'd recommend people to look for.  OR--many older FT-736R radios have/are showing up on the market as people upgrade to the 9700 in particular.  As I recall, that radio usually required an IF filter upgrade...?  The TS-790A is an easy mod to 9600, have done to at least of those rigs over the years.

The only challenge is automatic doppler control and the use of the internal modems at the same time.

So connect and external modem and you are good to go.

I've had a mail from a Cubesat group asking for recommendations for a 9k6 capable VHF / UHF
Transceiver.   The only advice I can offer as an IC9700 owner is.....Don't buy one of these !

I'm aware the IC910 was a favourite ground station radio, but are there other radios that can operate 9k6 without serious modification ?
Some handhelds probably work well these days (Kenwood?) but I suppose for satellite use, the ability to track Doppler is probably important. So a VFO or small steps.
