I am new to amateur satellite (this month) and signed up for AMSAT (this week ) and made my first contact Monday. I am excited by the camaraderie of this group, and touched by the kindness shown after John Heath's passing...I am looking forward to this new frontier for me and I hope to make contact with each of you in the group in the coming years.
Cheers!

I worked him twice, back in '93 via AO-13 Mode-B, SSB. I gave him a 58 each time. (My reports weren't so good!) Our first contact was a brief one, on the first weekend I ever operated satellite. The bird was crowded and I didn't really know what I was doing. The second QSO later in the year was a bit more of a ragchew.
I'm looking at his QSL card right now.
Please QSP condolences to the family from this DX station.

All, this is very hard to write, but his family has just told me that my good friend John Heath, G7HIA succumbed to cancer and passed away last night. They asked me to tell his amateur radio friends here and I know that amsat-uk have also been told. I'l leave it to others to complete his obituary, but I will always remember his passion for satellites and the cosmos, his patience in explaining and teaching others, his companionship and friendship, and our various contacts particularly with Russia. andy G0SFJ _______________________________________________ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org.
