I am listening to the AO-85 passes during this important week of testing (LISTENING, not transmitting as requested by the engineering team) and clearly hear Veronica announce "Fox-1 Safe Mode." Even on low elevation, the signal has been full quieting - strong and clear. I hope the operational mode sounds this good after testing is completed.
I recorded a pass last weekend when the recording was saying "Hi! This is amateur radio satellite Fox One." -- it boomed in full quieting almost the moment it came over the hill. Sounded like a local repeater a mile away.
The actual QSOs I heard, however, were decidedly different. It almost sounded like someone was holding up a mic to a speaker that the actual downlink was coming out of. I heard static between transmissions that was separate from the static heard when the sat rotates. A bit difficult to explain.
