Thanks for the suggestions, this looks like a great website!
Since I have no specifications on the original pot, any idea how I can navigate through their website for an equivalent part number?

Hi Alan, Scott, and All
Here are many wire wound linear potentiometers that can be adapted.

The models belove seems to be the best candidates because they are totally encapsulated wirewound and 360° continuous rotation.

Good and timely question Scott. Every 10 years or so I rebuild these
AZ
and EL rotators and replace the bears and low temperature grease I
think
that the pot is always the weak link and never gets attention. I have
3
sets of these AZ/EL rotators to maintain ( mine, club's and friend's )
so
about every 3 years I have at least one set of them on the bench.
I look forward to other's responses to replacing these pots that are unenclosed, exposed to condensation, bugs etc, with a looped centre
wire
flexing/coiling/uncoiling with each satellite pass.

Our club has a 5400 Elevation Rotor with a bad potentiometer (wires on
the
winding broken).
The part number is Vertex Q9000408, but I contacted them and they say
this
part is no longer available.
Anyone have a source for an equivalent part or another alternative?
