[amsat-bb] Ssb2000 preamp power

I have an older orange case SSB2000 model preamp. I used to use it for EME but replaced it and now want to use it in another installation for satellites. I do not however want to power it separately and want to send power down coax with ft847. This does not seem to work and I’m wondering if I need to make some sort of internal change to the preamp. The manual suggests I can power it through the coax. Any thoughts?
