I found this article in the last issue of Air Force Magazine to be interesting:

Game Changers

"System F6 is designed to help break the paradigm of monolithic satellite design-that is, planning to put all of a satellite's components on the same spacecraft bus, connected via wires. In its place, DARPA is advancing the concept of fractionated space architectures in which a satellite's nodes (e.g., sensors, power source, communications downlinks, processors) can be physically separated into modules that are connected in function via wireless links so that they create the same capability as their monolithic counterpart, if not more."
