- =I agree with Bob. You don't need elevation in order to operate through any AMSAT LEO satellite. In fact, I operate CW on the linear birds with nothing more than a dual-band (2m/70cm) whip on a metal mount, on my roof. On an FM satellite, though, the biggest problem is uplink QRM. This has led to a regrettable situation in which too many people run too much EIRP. If you operate during unpopular times or when the satellite is above an ocean or other unpopulated area, the QRM won't be so bad. 73 Ray W2RS

As a matter of fact I tried a couple of weeks ago with my small setup. I did not hear the beacon carrier (last I heard it several years ago it was just a single tone which changed with the slow rotation of the bird) on 145.812. I remember only having limited success in making contacts when she was nearing perigee AND was sunlit. Maybe someone else has had better luck recently???
