There is an even cheaper way if you like to build your own.
Paul, W1GHZ, has a set of transverter boards that can be used on 900MHz to 3.4GHz and are CHEAP to build if you like homebrewing.
I have the 900MHz and 1.2GHz boards and they have cost me about 150 dollars to procure parts and the boards so far not counting the parts that I have on hand in the junk box. You'll have to look at providing your own sequencing, enclosures, and connectors for these based on how you want to.
Pauls page for the transverters is: http://www.w1ghz.org/MBT/multiband.htm
Hope this is something that you might find useful and consider them.

Hi Mario, IK1ZQJ
I can suggest you to buy an SSB Electronics transverter model LT 24S output 1269 - 1271 MHz with an IF input 144-146 MHz, 10 watt output and a spare socket for a second XTAL to extend the band up or down the above centered BW
I have used the LT 24S to drive a pair of 7289 in a cavity amplifier when AO40 was alive and well
But be carefull.......because upconverters and transverters have their limitation in terms of frequency agility and probably it is more convenient for you to buy a second hand tranceiver with a 1200 MHz module installed as I did with a TS-790E at 850,00 Euro's and perfectly working.

Hello Folks, To work in uplink on the L band without a dedicated radio able to transmit
at 1269MHz an upconverter is needed, probably with if input is in 70cm.
Someone can suggest me how to use or build? I'm analyzing this way to save money instead of the station upgrade with a
new radio.
Thank you in advance.
