Thanks Allen for the heads up on the Yaesu service problem. Seems they all have problems at times. I really have had good luck with the Kewood service center in Virginia Beach. Others might not have had the same service. They replaced the display in TMV7A under warrenty 3 years after the purchase. I kinda liked that. I have spoken with the service fellow from down there at Dayton a couple of times and he seems really nice. I approached the Icom folks at Dayton about the IC-3230A problem and all I got was "well it is over a year old and out of warranty". Three trips to Washington state in that year was enough to get it out I guess. Well that is my dimes worth. Sure hope others have better luck with them. 73's <<John

Bad service is not something on which Icom has a monopoly. I sent my FT-847 rig in to Vertex. It was "repaired" without authorization, poorly at that, then lost for a couple of weeks while they tried to find where it was sent. What really chapped me was that at no time were e-mail or phone calls ever made to me to explain what was going on, so any information I got was on my dime.
To be fair, there seems to be some sort of house cleaning going on out there, both in the technical and administrative ends. Perhaps I can get some answers at Dayton. In any case, should I ever need service again, I will definitely go with on of the independents, of which there are still a few around.
