Hi All,
Here in Mauritius we are probably amongst the smallest HAM communities Worldwide but very dynamic with about only 15 active members out of which half are active on the birds particularly on QO-100, thus probably the highest % of OM’s in terms of HAM population on the birds. The reasons is very simple: we are quite isolated in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
More the Mauritius Amateur Radio Society (MARS) has been very active promoting the hobby and STEM at school level and year on year we have new comers to the hobby and HAM population growing for the past 10 years.
We succeeded to send a bird to space MO-112 and in spite of a lot of hurdles the mission objectives were met, thanks again to the worldwide HAM community who helped a lot particularly AMSAT, IARU, Dani (EA4GPZ) and Chris (G0KLA) who builded the decoders enabling our schools and HAMs to decode the TLMs.
We also organise students contacts through QO-100 between countries the latest being between 2 schools in Mauritius and France see: https://3b8mars.org/2024/04/06/satellite-school-connection/ https://3b8mars.org/2024/04/06/satellite-school-connection/ we are keen for this kind of activities with any country and in case interested please drop us a mail.
Also active on TEP see: https://3b8mars.org/2024/05/12/tep-activity/ https://3b8mars.org/2024/05/12/tep-activity/
